CounsellingOnline is a website where anyone seeking help or information about alcohol or drug related issues can access a professional counsellor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, free of charge, across Australia. CounsellingOnline provides live, one to one text-based counselling.

Who are CounsellingOnline?

CounsellingOnline is a program operated by Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre.  This program is funded by the Commonwealth Government under the National Illicit Drugs Strategy.

What can I get out of counselling?

Our counsellors work from the individual's identified needs. We can offer counselling, referral and information that will respect your ability to make informed choices for yourself.

How often can I use CounsellingOnline?

There are no restrictions on the number of times people can access the service.

Is what I say private and secure?

Yes, CounsellingOnline uses a secure internet system, employing Secure Socket Layering (SSL). Every endeavour is made to ensure that this site is protected. However, users should be aware that the World Wide Web is an insecure public network that gives rise to a potential risk that a client's sessions are being viewed, intercepted or modified by third parties or that downloaded files may contain computer viruses or other defects.

Confidentiality

CounsellingOnline will not share your personal information without your explicit permission. De-identified transcripts are used for professional supervision purposes. We offer a confidential service, except where CounsellingOnline has a duty of care to clients who may:

  • Be at serious risk of harm to themselves
  • Be at serious risk of harm to others
  • Identify issues that could lead to significant child   protection concerns

Record keeping and privacy

CounsellingOnline has a secure online record storage system. This system also has back up procedures. CounsellingOnline adheres to all legislation governing Privacy, Records and Confidentiality.

Are our counsellors qualified?

All of our counsellors are experienced and qualified drug and alcohol counsellors.

How much does a session cost?

This service is free.
